Right now I am gearing up for Christmas… getting my songs, my video, my parody numbers all polished and practiced! Its actually really fun to hear Christmas music playing.. yesterday I caught Giana in the shower singing one of the songs from my Christmas album and it made me all misty. It could have been the steam from the shower, but I don’t think it was. Christmas just makes people feel things… good things, bad things, new things! Its an awesome time of year.

This year I will be performing throughout the United States (it sounds so big and huge when I say it like that… or maybe I should call it a “tour”.. yeah, that’s it- that’s the word) okay- so I’ll be on TOUR (I just did the double eyebrow raise thing) in Illinois, Georgia, Florida, and anywhere else they need me to provide some great Holiday entertainment and/or Ministry~

If you, your church, your place of business, your women’s group, your men’s fellowship, your youth group, or whatever it is… needs some great entertainment this year- please consider my Holiday Show as an option!!

I had to ask Karen where she came up with the idea behind the video success.

“The Southwest Florida Christmas song and video just came to me. For most people who know me, they know I’m full of crazy ideas. I don’t think people believed me when I said I was going to do this. But I really think most people take themselves way too seriously and that real life is just funny. Full of surprises. I don’t know, I just like to make people laugh.

Where I live in Florida it gets crazy during the winter time. Its like a migration of retired people who can’t stand the cold. They all come at once and a lot of them drive gigantic motor homes or pull fifth wheels that cost more than your house and my house put together. I believe that they have lofty aspirations of being on the Board of Directors of whatever trailer park or condo association they can be on. Because the way they did it up North was far superior to anything we have ever seen or heard of down here. They run a tidy ship up there. Not sloppy and all “casual” in our flip flops like down here. So they try to take things over.

When they get here things have changed so much cause they haven’t been here for six, eight months so its not all that familiar to them. Plus, all their Doctors have built new mega office complexes that they have never been to before. Thus, they drive around and miss their turns quite a bit. When this happens, they stop in the middle of the moving traffic, and try to cross over three lanes of traffic to get where they are going. It doesn’t matter that they cause absolute mayhem when they do this because, well, most of the time they are unaware that anyone else is on the road.

Or, like what happened to me yesterday as I turned onto a road, I was met head on by a driver barely tall enough to see over the steering wheel as he faced me head on. He was in the wrong lane. Going the wrong direction. Or the lady who got off the interstate and drove onto the Miami airport runway and ended up driving off into the water. The stories are endless. This is not a rare occurrence, this is something that happens at each stoplight, at every intersection, every day, all day, all over Florida until the sun goes down. When the sun goes down they are all inside calling the cops on their neighbors who have their television turned up too loud. Trust me on this one.

Anyway, I love most of them (the snowbirds) that I know, and I look forward to their arrival for lots of reasons. Sharing the road isn’t one of them. And we call them snowbirds because they migrate down here when it snows.

The video for the snowbirds just made itself. I mean, I knew basically what I wanted, and then when I got my folks and Mary and Louise together.. they just took it and ran with it. They are natural hams. Mary says that she wants it to go viral so she can be on the Today Show. She’s picking out her outfit right now. She is hilarious. My mother was funny because she didn’t know she was being funny. The fact that she has a coupon notebook all neatly organized and ready to roll is hilarious. The fact that all her and Mary wanted to talk about in the car was gas and bowel issues was hilarious. Real life is just funny.

I don’t know how these song ideas come to me, they just do. I have lots of funny parody songs that I sing.. this is the only one that has its own video at present. I’m working on another one as we speak called “I’m a teenagers Mom” and I’m going to shoot a video for that one. I hope you like it! When I perform over the Holidays I think its really fun to get the audience involved and at Christmas time its easy to do because they are all familiar with the songs. Usually, when I am performing for a particular company or for a specific group of people, I’ll parody The Twelve Days of Christmas and write lyrics that would fit their particular group and make them get up and sing it. It just makes it more fun.

God gives us all talents and gifts and creative ideas. I am just lucky enough to have friends with recording studios and friends that are good sports and let me film them! Sometimes its just fun to be me!

Karen Reynolds Scott- that’s me. I am supposed to use this space to tell you about my credentials, who I’ve performed with, what I’ve accomplished, and my very best moments. Its true that I’ve been singing for years and have had some amazing opportunities to perform with some awesome talents. Its true that I have rubbed elbows with celebrities, I can make you laugh, and I’m a pretty good singer for your average Midwestern white girl.

Its also true that I have performed on stage in front of a huge crowd wearing two completely different shoes. I have been known to make up lyrics on the spot because I forgot the real words. There was the time I forgot to take out ALL the curlers before I went on stage, and the time just a few weeks ago that I hacked out my gum during the verse of a song. Humiliating for sure. But not as humiliating as the time I went on after a quick backstage costume change in the dark and during my number realized that my jacket was on inside out and the ENORMOUS shoulder pads looked like Noah’s Arks dancing around beside my head. Now that was special.

The bottom line is this: I don’t care if you remember me or what I wore, or even if I had matching shoes on… none of that matters to me or to God.
What matters is that you come away from your time with me knowing that Jesus loves you and wants you and will NEVER fail you. I want you to be ushered into the very presence of God and come away with the hope that only He can bring, the forgiveness and cleansing that will change your life forever, and the joy and peace that can’t be taken away. That is what I am “about”.
